Consumers Lebanon proudly participated in the 3rd General Assembly of the FUSION Project, funded by the PRIMA Partnership 🇪🇺, held from May 11–13, 2026, and hosted by the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT) in Patras, Greece.
The meeting gathered project partners from across the Mediterranean region, including Spain, Greece, Italy, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, and Lebanon, to advance innovative solutions aimed at reducing food loss and waste throughout the agri-food value chain.
Over three productive days, consortium members exchanged expertise and reviewed the latest progress in several key areas, including:
- Sustainable postharvest preservation technologies
- Solar-powered refrigeration systems
- Solar drying prototypes for food valorisation
- AI-based digital tools for real-time monitoring and shelf-life prediction of fresh produce
- Innovative cold plasma technologies for food safety and decontamination
One of the highlights of the General Assembly was the technical session led by Dr. Christos Aggelopoulos and the FORTH/ICE-HT team on cold plasma applications in the agri-food sector. The session showcased advanced research on bacterial inactivation, degradation of organic pollutants in water, and plasma bubbling systems for the decontamination of fresh horticultural products.
In addition to the technical discussions, the assembly focused on dissemination activities, sustainability and exploitation strategies, and strengthening collaboration among Mediterranean partners to support the development of smarter and greener food systems.
The event also provided an opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of Patras through visits to the Archaeological Museum and the city’s historical landmarks, further strengthening both professional cooperation and friendships among consortium members.
Consumers Lebanon is proud to represent Lebanon in this important regional initiative and to contribute, through the participation of Prof. Nada Nehme, to building a more sustainable and resilient agri-food future for the Mediterranean region.
